RIVERSIDE 5

DATE: 2007 | LOCATION:  Carrara, Gold Coast, QLD

Riverside 5 is the fifth stage of a large family estate which is situated on the Nerang River at Carrara. This fresh and breezy family home is on a 2.4-hectare site which also houses two other residences; an entertainment complex that incorporates a theatre, guest accommodation, 25-metre lap pool, fully equipped gym and a tennis court; a river deck and a pontoon providing direct access to the river.

As Shane has completed all the previous architectural work for this estate, he was once again commissioned for this project to design a 3-bedroom family home. The client brief was for the house to have a retro feel in the style of an 'old Gold Coast beach house'. Shane responded by designing a spacious home with clean lines, detailing simple yet stylish external and interior finishes while also incorporating environmentally efficient systems where possible.

Upon entry to Riverside 5, you are immediately drawn to the eye-catching ceiling lines which lead up to a row of clerestory windows. The polished recycled tallowwood timber floors provide a brilliant contrast to the stackbond face blockwork that features throughout.

The house features a wood-fired pizza oven, outdoor spa, spacious master bedroom with large ensuite withhis and hers' toilet suites and a walk-in robe. The C-Bus system allows the occupants to control the lighting and audio throughout the house as well as the mechanical aluminium shutters that surround it. These shutters can be open to provide extra light and ventilation through the house while also being aesthetically pleasing.

The living area and galley kitchen are separated by continuous banks of frameless glass bi-folding doors to the covered entertaining area which overlooks the Nerang River. Bi-folding insect screens on the external side of the entertaining area enable the glass bi-folds to be kept open to provide natural cross ventilation through the house. With the internal glass doors open, the indoor and outdoor living areas flow into one spacious area fluidly.

Shane was also commissioned to design the built-in joinery, including the master bed, as well as select colours and materials for the interior.
