LITTLE SEEDS EARLY LEARNING CENTRE - TUGUN
DATE: 2019 | LOCATION: Tugun, Gold Coast, QLD
Little Seeds Early Learning Centre has an impressive street presence yet sits comfortably between adjacent commercial and residential interfaces. Public entry to the building utilises brick landscaped planters and a vine-covered walkway softening impact from the street.
Room sizes and child to carer ratios are strictly regulated so early planning was vital. A request from the Client was for the approach to the child pedagogy of Emilia Reggio be implemented. Core principles of environmental connection between internal and external were successfully incorporated into each classroom, and shared facilities between rooms helped minimise the building footprint.
The 1888m2 corner site has sloping typography, which was incorporated into the design with undercroft car parking. Positioning classrooms above, the siting and layout of the centre allow for play areas at the rear of the building on level ground. Integrated shade structures over purpose-designed playscape encourage outdoor play in safe conditions.
