ECO VILLAGE CORNER STORE

DATE: 2021 | LOCATION: Currumbin Valley, Gold Coast, QLD

Nestled in the heart of Currumbin Valley’s award-winning Ecovillage, a thoughtfully designed corner store serves as a vital community hub. By reducing residents’ reliance on cars for daily essentials, it fosters stronger local connections while promoting sustainability.

The design prioritises environmental responsibility, incorporating renewable materials, green roofs and passive cooling techniques that seamlessly integrate with the village’s existing fabric. Key design principles guide the planning, ensuring respect for the Ecovillage’s unique environmental character. A carefully curated landscape plan prioritises native species, preserves iconic trees and integrates pedestrian-friendly pathways to minimise ecological disruption.

Collaboration between architects, planners and stakeholders has resulted in a space that aligns with the Ecovillage’s vision. By placing sustainability and community needs at the forefront, the corner store stands as a compelling example of positive architecture—one that reinforces the delicate balance between nature, people, and place.
