BAL HARBOUR
DATE: 2015 | LOCATION: Gold Coast, QLD
Bal Harbour is a luxurious family home for a couple with 2 young children. The site is 792m2 on a cul-de-sac to the west and the Nerang River to the east.
The brief called for a modern home with interesting architectural features. The western facade was broken up with the introduction of 3 main elements – copper, zinc and white glazed Stackbond brickwork. Eastern elevation was articulated with similar elements with cutout sections giving a much lighter form, and allow in natural light. Screens and pergolas were used to stop solar gain.
Entry is via stone-clad steppers over a water feature.
The vehicle entry into the basement had to be built up as the whole street is below the required Q100 flood level. The ground level houses the entry, feature spiral stair, cinema, powder room, office, kids playroom, living, dining and kitchen. A large covered external deck with an outdoor kitchen overlooks the pool and down onto the waterway.
The upper level houses the bedrooms and bathrooms. The main bedroom is spacious with a sitting room and balcony.
A lift accesses all levels.
Overall this has been a successful project and the clients are very happy with their new family home.
